Optimist Newsletter March 11, 2004 President’s Corner A few nights ago I heard our International President, Dwaine Sievers speak about how things change and yet stay the same. That sounds as if it can’t be possible, but here’s his point. Optimist clubs originally started because of a need for businesses to know and understand current events (remember we’re talking about the early 1900’s). Today it isn’t the information, but we roll up our sleeves to help and work with our youth. That’s the change part. The need to help our youth is the part that hasn’t changed in all the time Optimist clubs have been formed. Look at what we have accomplished in the last month. We hosted a total of 68 teams between the girls and boys MOBI tournaments. You have impacted the lives of 680 youth if there were 10 on a team. Considering all of our programs put together it’s not hard to believe that each Optimist will have an impact on 33 youth this year. That’s the job you took on as an Optimist. My thanks to each one of you, not for working MOBI, but being willing to have a positive impact on our youth. Keep up being the good role models you are. What have you done this week to interact with youth? Join all of us at our weekly meetings and bring a friend with you this month. YES
