Optimist Newsletter
December 4, 2003 President’s Corner By now you've all
heard our International President's slogan for this year, YES WE CAN. As
we move to the Christmas season I was wondering what that might mean. Here
are a few things to pause and think about.
YES WE CAN feel proud about putting lights on trees for the community.
YES WE CAN help our own club by our attendance.
YES WE CAN commit to help others not as fortunate.
YES WE CAN help our youth.
YES WE CAN make a difference.
YES WE CAN beats No We Can't, every time. (That's why you are an Optimist.) Please add your own
thoughts to the YES WE CAN list. There's plenty more WE can do. Happy Holidays, Prez Pete
Peterson, President Marshalltown Optimist Club

Meeting News
The board members met at Dib’s, Wednesday, noon, December 3rd. We meet the first Wednesday at noon, each month. Members are welcomed at our meetings. Our audit balanced for last year. Our current membership is at 55 members. The tentative total for our efforts with the Christmas Tree Lighting could net us about $10,000. Anne Fiscus has tentatively scheduled the take down of the lights for January 10th and 11th. We approved buying a new banner for our club, since we could not repair the old banner. Our banner is used at club meetings, district meetings, etc,. Committee assignment sheets are available in the “button box”. We consented to apply for the next available State Optimist Convention. Which will be 2006 or beyond. We agreed to sponsor the new club in Grinnell. This will involves holding a few club meetings, buying their banner and bell, planning their Charter party, among other items. There will be no club meetings December 25th or January 1st, 2004. The social event is tentatively scheduled for the end of January. This will replace the burning of the greens party. If you would like to help, please see Theresa Walton. We paid $1,000 to the MCC Scholarship fund. We need members to sign up for our “Membership” committee. With the new club in Grinnell, we are on track for being a ‘Distingquished’ club this year. Next board meeting will be Wednesday, January 7th, at Dib’s.
