Presidents
Corner It has been a
good year. Your hard work has
benefited a lot of kids in this community and many who have come to Marshalltown
for such activities as Special Olympics, MOBI, OI Junior Golf, and the Kid's
Pedal Pull. I thank you all for
your efforts and your support in my presidential year.
My only regret is that (so far) Honor Club Status has eluded us.
We've met every requirement except for membership growth.
Our club is currently down 5 members for the year.
We need 8 more new members to meet the requirements.
That's just two a week for the next 4 weeks.
That would be 8 more Optimists to help with projects and serve the kids
of our community. Anne Fiscus has the Homer Reinhart award on her desk right
now, but it could still be yours... Pete Peterson
will be taking over as president on Thursday, Oct. 2nd.
I expect many of you have been counting down the days.
Anyway, please mark the date on your calendars and plan to attend the
Installation Banquet. I know you
will support Pete as you have me. I look forward
to seeing all of you at our meeting on Thursday and at the State Pedal Pull
Championship at the Coliseum on Saturday. Thanks again for
all you've done this year. Optimistically, Ken Walton - President Marshalltown Optimist Club Schedule of Events Board Meeting Oct 1 – Wed, Noon, at DIB’s Programs Sept 4 – Leaf watching Sept 11 – tent- New Lead program director Sept 19 – Mary Curley, Orpheum Theater Sept 26 – Oktemberfest Oct

OF THE WEEK
A
Fond Farewell… We are in the process of counting for perfect attendance. All committee chairs should have submitted their workers hours by now, but some have not yet reported. If you are one of these, please hand in a report immediately to ensure credit. Jim Buresh looks like he will continue to hold the prize for the most years of perfect attendance at 41! These awards and many more will be handed out in a fun ceremony we like to call the Installation Banquet on October 2, 2003. You have already paid for this meal and the evening for yourself through dues, and are encouraged to attend. Guests are always welcomed and you will be only charged our cost for their meal. It makes for a fun wrap-up of the year and gets things off to a good start for the next administration. I am also looking for advancement of anyone in the PGI program. Has anyone read “Of Dreams and Deeds”? Do you need another level signed before the year is ended? I will need to order new pin backers if you have achieved a new level. This effort is a great way to keep you on track in being an active Optimist. We also get points as a club for your efforts. Contact me with any questions. In September, we plan to re-roof the gazebo in the Optimist Park. Many of the existing wood shingles are very rotten since it is in shade all day. On the same day, we will be doing light maintenance to the park as well. Everyone is invited to pitch in. Ken Walton will be announcing the date, so watch for it. The shingles will be here soon, Ken. I have been your
Secretary/Treasurer for almost 3 years now.
It has been a challenge to keep up on occasion, but the effort is always
worth it. This club is a great
cause to work for with its mission for the youth.
I am looking forward to not sitting at the head table for the first time
since 1998! I will enjoy the more
active fellowship with each one of you. Thank
you all for your support and assistance making my job easier over the past many
years. We should all be very proud
of what is still one of the strongest clubs around.
It has been an honor to serve you. –
