Marshalltown Noon Optimist Newsletter - August 1, 2002
Presidents Corner Hi everyone! Boy it is great
to be an optimist!! Things have
been hectic and changing fast for John and I.
If I wasn't an optimist it would seem overwhelming.
We have been working in Manitowoc "and" Eldora, but are
planning on attending the Iowa District Optimist Convention in Dubuque on August
8-11th in beautiful Dubuque ( only 3 hours or so from Manitowoc, WI!!) We are trying to sell my house here in Marshalltown, 3051 190th street 8
acres, five bedrooms, two baths in the great GMG school district.
Make sure to contact evening Optimist Jeff Heyden for more details.
If an optimist would buy it we wouldn't need to move that optimist
trailer that is stored there. I am
also donating a large tent if we can find a volunteer to buy the house or store
the items. We also plan to see you all in September at the Installation Banquet and
watch Ken install the new officers. I
hope you are all attending the weekly meetings and giving Ken a hand since he
has been so kind as to take over presidential duties early!
I know you are all pulling together in my absence to get our projects
done and enjoy the fellowship at our meetings! I'm sending Cyndi a photo of the house we are buying.
My cell phone and email are the best way to reach me, as we will be in
temporary housing till we get possession in Sept.
After that any of you who are up in our area should stop by for a visit.
We have several bedrooms and a huge dairy barn.
It is near the door county area with lots of tourist stuff to see and do. Optimistically Yours, Mary Reimers - President Marshalltown Optimist Club Schedule

the Q-T from the S-T We are doing very well on our Achievements and Awards points in comparison
to the District; in fact we have the highest scoring zone of all.
A lot of that success, however is because of the Evening Club's Claim on
huge point numbers. We need to
really make it a "point" to get points. For example, did you know we can get points for attendance?
If we were to have 60% attendance overall during a quarter we would get
250 points. To do this we need 39
people average at a meeting. This
size of a group would really bolster other elements, like membership, as well. We get 500 points for each member who attends a district meeting.
We get 100 points for each new level of PGI reached by a member.
We even get 100 points for each member that reads "Of Dreams and
Deeds" the Optimist history book that is an easy read. WHEN we achieve honor club status with membership, we receive 2750 points.
For each new member, we get another 100 points.
So far, we have 21,200 points and we have until Sept. 30 to push these
numbers to the sky. Let's show
LeRoy and the Evening Club just what we can do!
I know we can do great things if we put our minds to it.
So attend often, bring guests, ask them to join our club, and ask any of
the officers how you can be involved. - Sean Ervin, Secretary / Treasurer (on the way to becoming Master S/T which is worth 1000 points) Pedal
Pull
The Pedal Pull will be Saturday, September 7th. This event will need a good number of volunteers.
Starting Friday afternoon, September 16th, for setup.
And Saturday, September 7th for registration, refreshments,
door attendance, pedal tractor raffle sales, handing out ribbons to the
contestants as each youth finishes, and clean up. A sign up sheet will be started in early August. - Bob Wenner Special
